LIGHT.MOVEMENT
“Light has not just intensity, but also a vibration, which is capable of roughening a smooth material, of giving a three-dimensional quality to a flat surface.”
The hardest part was photographing in the morning, when temperatures were low and visibility non-existent. But what we created was pure magic.
This project started as an opportunity to document, my friend Emma’s last years of dancing. She has been dancing her whole life and her body has born the brunt of the continuous training. Knowing that she would not be able to dance like she used to, we set off to capture her love of dance and movement in an environment that equally shifts and changes.
We landed on the sand dunes of NC called Jockey’s Ridge. To really capture the beauty of her dance, we expanded the idea to capture a sequence of dance in 3 different points of the day; morning, noon and sunset.
Some the hardest moments were photographing in the extreme cold alongside of coastal winter winds. We also aimed to always keep the light across Emma and only switching the angles up and down.
To this day, this project is by far one of my favorites and a sweet moment and memory of my beautiful friend’s talents.
