A DAY OF

MOVEMENT.

On The Sandy Hills Of Jockey’s Ridge.

This project came as a true collaboration between my friend and dancer, Emma Pinkerton.

I wanted to explore movement and light and Emma wanted to express a personal story of “dance.”

Emma is an amazing artist and dancer and through the years of dance has suffered many injuries. This was one of the last photographs I have of her dancing.

About

This project was born from a longing to study how light affects perception of movement. What was born, was more than a simple study but how mood, movement, light and solitude are expressed in a single moment.

Creative Direction

We knew that we wanted to use a surrounding that was simple but carried with it the weight of “movement.” We chose an area of NC called "Jockey’s Ridge which is the largest sand dune in NC. It creates the effect of a desert.

The Challenge

We were surrounded constantly by people which made it hard to explore the idea of solitude, but with some creative angles and movement we were able to achieve solitude.

We also faced changing climate and weather. On multiple occasions we had to leave and come back to the scene.
