HERITAGE.PIECES

An Exploration Of Matriarchal Characteristics And The Genetics We Share Along With The Memories We Tie To The Objects We Inherit.

The family photographed in this series, are the Pittmans of North Carolina and a dear family to me. I truly love their unique physical characteristics and how each trait can be beautifully seen through out the generations of daughters, mothers and sisters. This project came from a discussion that my friend, Hannah (pictured above and left) and I were having on the pendant she inherited from her granny. We talked about the memory of her and how special this piece was.

I called the talented, Lauren of Palm Sunday Jewelry and pitched her the idea of photographing a series of family portraits using her jewelry to tell the story about heritage pieces. This idea for Lauren, was to share the story of how each piece of jewelry she makes is an investment and that it will be meaningful to someone else one day as it is passed down through generations.
